  • 100 Year Anniversary
    Updated On: Mar 13, 2018
Reminder: February 28, 2018, Tones Across North America On Wednesday, February 28, this great union will recognize its 100-year anniversary. We encourage all affiliates to help us celebrate by creating "Tones Across North America." At 2:00 p.m.* Eastern Time on February 28, we are asking all affiliates in the United States and Canada to work with their fire chief to strike emergency tones and to announce through their jurisdiction's dispatch system this centennial message: "At 2:00 p.m. eastern time 100 years ago today, on February 28, 1918, delegates representing 24 local fire fighter unions, founded the IAFF. It is with great pride that we celebrate our 100th anniversary, honoring the men and women who helped shape the IAFF into the great union it is today, making a positive impact on fire fighter jobs, livelihoods, health and retirement security - and ensuring that this noble profession continues to be as safe as it can be for the greatest membership in the world. Congratulations to the IAFF on a century of progress." At the same time (2:00 p.m. Eastern Time), representatives from many of the original locals affiliated with the IAFF on this date in 1918 will join the IAFF's principal officers and Executive Board to participate in a special event in Washington, DC - which will be broadcast live on Facebook, where this statement will also be read, to recreate the photo (below) of delegates during the first IAFF Convention in 1918. *Eastern Time: 2:00 p.m. *Central Time: 1:00 p.m. *Mountain Time: 12:00 p.m. *Pacific Time: 11:00 a.m. This is an opportunity for all affiliates to simultaneously recognize our 100th anniversary at the local level on the date of the anniversary, and to show the great bond we all have that has truly created 100 years of progress through unity. We also encourage you to share recordings, videos and photos of your participation at the local level on social media using the hashtag #IAFF100years. We hope you can join us on February 28. And we will also be celebrating our centennial throughout the year and at our 2018 Convention in Seattle. In Solidarity, Harold A. Schaitberger General President
